Microbiome Test
Maps the composition of your gut bacteria, including the estrobolome that partly regulates your estrogen balance.
What is this test
The microbiome test maps the composition of your gut bacteria: which strains are present, in what ratio, and which functional capabilities they have. Your gut isn't just a digestive organ, but also the largest immune organ in your body, and plays a direct role in your hormone balance through the estrobolome.

Why Menovia measures this
Declining estrogen levels affect the diversity of the microbiome and weaken the gut wall. A weakened gut wall in turn affects the breakdown and excretion of hormones, further reinforcing hormonal imbalance: a vicious circle that's characteristic for many women during menopause. The composition of the microbiome also differs significantly between women with severe and women with mild menopause symptoms. There's also a practical reason: not every woman absorbs oral progesterone equally well. A disrupted gut wall can significantly reduce absorption, showing up as treatment-resistant symptoms despite an adequate dosage. That's a problem rarely recognized in regular care.
What you get with the results
You won't get a standalone lab report, but a personalized treatment protocol. Targeted microbiome therapy through probiotics and supplements, tailored to your result, is a standard part of what Menovia offers.

Frequently asked questions
How quickly will I notice improvement?
Symptom improvement often occurs between 4 and 12 weeks. Typical treatment duration is 3 to 6 months.
Can't I just improve my microbiome with diet?
Often not enough on its own. In practice we see many women during menopause with a significantly disrupted microbiome, despite applying these lifestyle interventions. The hormonal changes, low-grade inflammation, and long-term disrupted gut wall then call for a more targeted approach.
Is fermented food always good?
Not for everyone. Women with histamine intolerance, which is more common during menopause, can actually experience symptoms from fermented products. In that case it's better to avoid them. This is exactly why personal advice works better than general nutrition advice.
Which program includes this test?
The microbiome test is part of the Plus and Compleet programs. Additional supplements and probiotics advised based on the result fall outside the program fee.
