Night Sweats

Waking up drenched and broken sleep: night sweats wreck your rest, but they're very treatable.

Do you recognize this?

You wake up at night with a soaked pajama top, throw off the covers, and half an hour later you're shivering. Night sweats are the nighttime version of a hot flash, and possibly the most disruptive, because they wreck your sleep. Anyone who wakes up broken night after night notices that everything feels harder during the day: your energy, your mood, your concentration.

Sound familiar?

  • Waking up in wet sheets, sometimes several times a night
  • Covers off, on, off again: all night long
  • A partner complaining about the "sauna" in bed
  • Getting up exhausted, no matter how early you went to bed

Why does this happen?

Just like hot flashes, night sweats occur because declining and fluctuating estrogen levels disrupt your brain's internal thermostat. At night, something else is added: your body temperature naturally drops during sleep, and a dysregulated thermostat overreacts to that, triggering a cooling response that wakes you up drenched in sweat.

Progesterone also plays a role: this hormone supports sleep quality, and progesterone is often the first hormone to decline during menopause. The combination of sweating and lighter sleep explains why many women find this phase so exhausting.

What can you do yourself?

These adjustments can make the difference between a broken night and a bearable one:

  • Cool your bedroom to 16 to 18 degrees Celsius and choose breathable bedding (cotton, linen) instead of synthetic fabrics.
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine in the evening: both dilate blood vessels and trigger sweating.
  • Don't eat too late or too heavily; active digestion raises your body temperature.
  • Keep a change of clothes ready. Practical, but it saves a lot of frustration in the middle of the night.

If your sleep keeps suffering, the hormonal cause is the place to look.

Effects

How Menovia addresses this

At Menovia, we address night sweats at the source: the hormonal picture. A BIG-registered doctor goes through your symptoms and sleep pattern with you during the intake. Targeted blood testing shows where your hormone levels stand, and depending on your package, we also look at your thyroid and blood sugar, which can make nighttime sweating worse.

The doctor then draws up a personal treatment plan, usually with personally dosed bio-identical hormones. Many women find that night sweats can decrease as a result, and sleep can recover. Every 12 weeks we check your blood values and adjust where needed.

You can sign up today, there's no waiting list, and the 10-minute introductory call is free.

Frequently asked questions

Is night sweating the same as a hot flash?

Essentially yes: it's the same disruption of your internal thermostat, just during sleep. Because your body can compensate less at night, the sweating is often more intense.

Can night sweats have another cause?

Yes, thyroid problems, infections, and certain medications, among other things, can also cause night sweats. That's exactly why Menovia works with extensive blood testing, so the doctor has a complete picture before you start treatment.

Does hormone therapy help against night sweats?

Hormone therapy is among the most effective treatments for hot flashes and night sweats. Whether it fits your situation is assessed by the doctor during the intake, based on your symptoms, history, and blood values.

Are the costs reimbursed?

Since May 2026, part of the consultations are reimbursed through supplementary insurance. This varies by insurer and policy.
