Supplements
Targeted supplementation based on your blood values, as a foundation under your treatment.

What is this treatment
At Menovia, supplements aren't a standard package, but targeted advice based on what your blood test shows. They don't replace a healthy lifestyle or medical treatment, but form a solid foundation under it.
When is this suitable?
Supplementation comes into the picture once your blood values show that something is missing. That's a deliberate order: measure first, then supplement. A vitamin D deficiency is very common in the Netherlands, especially during the winter months, and low ferritin causes fatigue and hair loss that closely resemble menopause symptoms. Without measuring, you don't know whether you're supplementing the right thing.

Why this approach
Five supplements together form a broad foundation: vitamin D3 and creatine for bone and muscle, magnesium for the nervous system and sleep, a high-dose B-complex for energy and methylation, and omega-3 for heart and mood. They don't replace hormone therapy or lifestyle, they reinforce them. Important to know: normal blood values don't rule out a functional deficiency at the cellular level. In practice, we regularly see women who, despite normal values, respond well to targeted supplementation with the active forms of B12 and folic acid.
What it delivers
Support for bone density and muscle preservation
Calmer nervous system and better sleep
Support for methylation and energy
Anti-inflammatory effect on heart and mood
How it works in practice
Measure first
Vitamin D, B12, folic acid, and ferritin are included in the blood test. This lets us see whether there's actually a deficiency, instead of guessing.
Personal advice
The doctor advises dosage and form based on your values and symptoms. With an MTHFR variant, for example, the methylated form of folic acid is more relevant.
Form, dosage, and timing
Some supplements work better at a specific time. Magnesium bisglycinate, for example, mainly in the evening, because of its relaxing effect.
Monthly monitoring and adjustment
Every month you discuss with a doctor how things are going and fill in the MRS questionnaire beforehand. We repeat blood testing every 12 weeks, so we can see whether the deficiencies have actually been corrected.
Frequently asked questions
What women most often ask about supplements at Menovia:
Which supplements do you usually recommend?
Vitamin D3, magnesium in bisglycinate form, creatine, a high-dose B-complex, and omega-3. Together they cover bone and muscle, the nervous system and sleep, energy and methylation, and heart and mood.
Why creatine?
Creatine is known as a sports supplement, but research into its role in muscle tissue, bone density, and cognition is growing quickly. Recent randomized studies specifically in peri- and postmenopausal women show improvements in reaction time, brain creatine levels, and sleep quality.
Do supplements replace my treatment?
No. Supplements don't replace a healthy lifestyle or medical treatment, they form a foundation under it. You see the most effect when supplements, nutrition, exercise, and, where needed, bio-identical hormone therapy are used together.
Are supplements reimbursed?
Additional supplements and probiotics recommended as part of your treatment fall outside the monthly program fee.
